As a result of a Borough Council consultation with residents of Kennington, a new Community Council was established and came into legal existence in April 2019.

The Community Council serves the Kennington area through 16 Councillors for the areas of Bybrook, Grosvenor Hall (Bockhanger), Kennington, Kennington North, Little Burton Farm & Conningbrook, with elections every 4 years.

The Community Council is the first tier of Local Government and is a civil Parish Council. The Council agrees a Budget annually, and this is funded from a Precept – an amount payable by each domestic property in the area and which is collected through the borough Council Tax.

The Council Tax precept has remained frozen for now a third year in a row. Kennington Community Council approved a budget for 2023-24 which involves keeping constant the amount – the ‘Precept’ – which it asks Kennington residents to contribute through their Council Tax payments.

The Council holds regular Council meetings, usually on the second Wednesday of each month.
