Recently in Kent on Vaisakhi the KMMS Research team engaged with the Sikh community and shared mental health research

Our team at the Kent and Medway Medical School and the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KMPT) is engaging the Kent Sikh community in mental health research, thanks to funding from the NIHR Clinical Research Network Kent, Surrey Sussex in their ‘Underserved Communities’ call.

Our aim is to increase representation and participation of Sikhs in mental health research in Kent.  Led by anthropologist Professor Lisa Dikomitis and psychiatrist Professor Sukhi Shergill, our team is conducting ethnographic research that includes participant observation, interviews, creative workshops, storytelling, and mental mapping.

To promote our research in the Sikh community, the team attended a recent Vaisakhi celebration in Kent, where we shared information about our work and many Sikhs signed up to participate.

If you are interested in joining our research or participating in any way, please get in touch by emailing Professor Dikomitis at sikhresearch@kmms.ac.uk
