Construction will commence this coming Monday (29th April), marking the beginning of a project that promises to revitalize and enhance the much-loved community space.

The extensive £4.3m renovations will encompass various aspects of the recreation ground, including a new larger café, outdoor performance area, improved changing room facilities, enhanced landscaping and memorial garden, and increased parking. The upgraded amenities are designed to support the diverse needs of visitors, with accessible equipment in the children’s playground being complemented by accessible footpaths and a new Changing Places toilet. Sports enthusiasts are well catered for with new provision including a larger multi-use games area, climbing apparatus, outdoor gym, running track and pump track. These upgrades aim to create a vibrant and inviting environment for residents of all ages to enjoy for generations to come, encouraging community spirit and promoting active lifestyles.

The construction works, projected to continue until Spring 2025, will be carried out by GPS Projects Ltd, who will be aiming to minimise disruption to users and the surrounding area.

“We’re delighted to announce the start of construction on the much-anticipated upgrades to Stone Recreation Ground,” said Council Chair Jessica McQueen. “This project represents a significant investment in our community and reflects our commitment to providing high quality recreational facilities for all to enjoy.”

“We understand that construction may cause some inconvenience, but we assure residents that every effort will be made to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of all visitors. The result will be a fantastic recreational space that we can all take pride in.”

As construction gets underway, residents are encouraged to stay informed about project updates and any temporary closures that may be in place. Regular progress reports will be provided to keep the community engaged and informed every step of the way.
