Tourism Industry News from White Cliffs Country

With most schools breaking up for the summer holidays at the end of this week, it is anticipated that Friday 19 – Sunday 21 July will be very busy days for Port of Dover and Eurotunnel.  In preparation for this, Operation Brock will be in place on the M20 to help manage the expected increase in traffic.

It is  expected that the following weekend (Thursday 25 – Saturday 27 July) will also be extremely busy due to the start of the Olympics.  Passenger numbers are predicted to be high over every weekend (Thursday-Saturday) up until mid-August.

For the latest updates for residents and businesses of Dover District, please visit the DDC website.

We are collating information from local businesses about the impact of summer traffic issues, so if your business is affected (either positively – e.g., more customers – or negatively – e.g., reduced footfall), we would like to hear from you. Please email WCC.Marketing@dover.gov.uk. Thank you for your help.

Kent County Council is developing the county’s Local Nature Recovery Strategy through ‘Making Space for Nature in Kent and Medway’, working with partners and stakeholders to establish shared priorities for nature recovery and environmental improvements which will ultimately create a network of wildlife-rich places across the county and the UK. They want to hear from businesses/landowners with areas that could become important for biodiversity. Funding streams will be available to help initiatives come to fruition. For more information, please contact the team at makingspacesfornature@kent.gov.uk

Dover Western Heights Project Officer Sarah Horan will be supporting project-based activities, including placemaking, regeneration, engagement and volunteering, which contribute towards the conservation and regeneration of Dover Western Heights. Additionally, she will be promoting and enhancing the understanding of the historic environment of the Western Heights and its wider importance/relationship with the town, seafront and beyond.
