As part of a 12-month trial, Folkestone residents who use the Sandgate Road parking lot must pay at the end of their stay.

Drivers will only be charged for the time that is actually needed upon their return because Automatic Number Plate Recognition ( ANPR ) cameras will record the precise time they arrive.

Additionally, it will allow enforcement personnel to concentrate their efforts on careless parking elsewhere in the neighborhood.

The ticket machines will still accept cash or credit cards from residents and visitors who use the parking lot. By using our new Autobill service starting on Monday, February 5, 2024, you can also sign up to have payments made automatically when you leave.

Signing up is simple, quick, and secure; additional advantages include skipping the line to pay and avoiding the need to look for spare change. Create an account, then enter your name, vehicle, and payment information.

As part of a trial, the ANPR cameras and automatic barriers will initially be in place for 12 months. If successful, the plan is to roll them out to other parking lots.

How it functions:

  • First, park your car; the ANPR camera will read your license plate. You do n’t need to do anything once you’ve parked; just walk into Folkestone town center and continue with your day!
  • Step 2: When you get back, use a credit card or cash to pay by entering the registration number for your car in the ticket machine. As an alternative, use Autobill to sign up for ticketless payment and then proceed directly to the exit.
  • Step 3: Drive out of the parking lot. When the camera reads your registration plate, the barrier automatically lifts.

The convenient and hassle-free system, according to a Folkestone &amp, Hythe District Council spokesperson,” will make parking easier and quicker for those visiting Folkstone town center.”

This trial will make it easier for people to spend more time at our parking hotspots, which are near our schools at the beginning and end of the day and along the coast in the summer.
