A medium-bodied Rioja is the ideal companion for binge-watching a TV show ( 21 % ), and a gently spiced Merlot is the best for enjoying in the bath ( 15 percent ), while Pinot Grigio is the perfect way to unwind after a long day at work ( 30 percent ), and Aldi has conducted a thorough investigation into the wines that perfectly pair with life ( 21 % ).

A good book and a rich wine with no hard edges, like a Viognier ( 10 % ), and a lightly oaked Chardonnay and a romantic movie also work well together, according to the survey of 2,000 wine lovers.

According to the findings, 78 percent of the nation say they have certain wines that they drink on certain occasions, with nothing beating a crisp and acidic Sauvignon Blanc when cooking a meal ( 27 percent ), a complex Cabernet Franc for a romantic date at home ( 15 percent ) and a fresh, linear English Rosé to cheer on and watch Team GB in the Olympics ( 13 percent ).

But if you’re looking for the perfect partner for comforting a friend after a breakup, a full-bodied, fruity Chenin Blanc seems to be the best choice ( 14 percent ).

And you can forget Champagne for a cork-popping wedding celebration, Brits much prefer sparkling English wine ( 30 percent ), while Prosecco is the top choice for bottomless brunch ( 33 percent ), a baby shower ( 23 percent ) and Prosecco Rosé for a bank holiday ( 24 percent ).

In fact, Champagne is the go-to for wetting the baby’s head ( 21 percent ) and a divorce party ( 15 percent ), while Cava is the perfect drink to toast moving house ( 15 percent ).

The Mistress of Wine, a wine expert who participated in the study, said: “The study has revealed a number of wines that pair well with certain living conditions. This is because all wine varieties have different construction and flavor features that work best with particular emotions.

I find it surprising that a more sophisticated beverage, like one made of Cabernet Franc, is ideal for a romantic date; It is a beverage you are more likely to enjoy and that also makes a good conversation starter with your spouse!

A lightly oaked wine would be the best wine to drink in the bathtub because its medium-bodied framework and spice aroma give off a sense of comfort and cosiness.

“And when it comes to celebrating, there is nothing like a glass of soda! Did you know that sparkling wine has bubbles that give it a ‘fizzy lift ’ along with the wonderful sounds of a cork popping and glasses clinking? ”

As a society, Brits drink wine 11 times a month, spending a monthly average of £85 on our favorite tipples.

Britons consume liquor the most ( 14 times per month ) while those in Oxford consume it nine times per month and those in Edinburgh who spend only £52 per month.

Additionally, according to the survey, only 47 % of respondents consider themselves to be knowledgeable about wine, with 79 percent saying they enjoy impressing their friends and family with their facts.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Londoners are the most clued-up about wine with three-quarters ( 75 percent ) claiming they have a good understanding of the different styles, regions, and grape types, while wine drinkers in Leicester ( 30 percent ) are the least knowledgeable.

In comparison, 89 percent of people wish they knew more about wine, with 40 % of them admitting to spending even more on a bottle of wine to please a friend.

A fifth ( 19 percent ) have gone a step further and researched the wine they’re serving to showcase their knowledge, while 17 percent admit looking up wine terms to use in front of people.

18 percent say they have drunk a beverage that they don’t like just to look more sophisticated.

Aldi UK’s managing director of Purchasing, Julie Ashfield, observed:” We are aware that some customers find choosing a wine to be difficult, and they do n’t always choose based on the food they intend to consume.

By highlighting some other “occasion pairings,” we hope that customers will view the wine section with an open mind and lessened sentiments about wine matching. ”

When it comes to what attracts Brits to certain bottles of wine, price is the biggest factor ( 73 percent ), followed by flavour profile ( 64 percent ) and country of origin ( 46 percent ).

One in three (32 percent ) choose a drink based on the event, while 31 percent merely look at the label.

A quarter ( 22 % ) of Brits admit to buying a new variety of wine every time they consume it, despite the fact that 94 percent of them concur that their wine choices have changed over the past few years.

60 % of people enjoy trying new vineyards, but they also acknowledge that they frequently choose to end up with their old favorites.

France ( 20 percent ), Italy ( 17 percent ), the UK ( 15 percent ), Australia ( nine percent ) and New Zealand ( eight percent ) are considered the countries that produce the best wine.
