Sevenoaks Town Football Club and Sevenoaks Town Council are delighted that their partnership bid to the meeting of Sevenoaks District Council’s Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Fund last month for £787,500 towards the new proposed Football & Community Pavilion was successful.

As part of the funding application Sevenoaks Town Council committed a further £87,500 match funding, which now brings the total project funding to £1 million pounds.

This is a major boost towards Sevenoaks Town Football Club’s plans to redevelop Greatness Park facility both for the football club and the local community.

The project is to build a new football and community pavilion close to the current 3G pitch.

The current brick pavilion adjacent to the grass pitches will be released for future community use.

The land and buildings are owned by Sevenoaks Town Council and provided to Sevenoaks Town Football Club on a peppercorn lease who manage the facilities.

Sevenoaks Town Football Club Chairman Paul Lansdale said: “This is fantastic news and provides a real step forward in our aim to build a new clubhouse which will benefit the entire football community at Sevenoaks Town FC with the provision of new changing rooms, kitchen and refreshment areas, other facilities and a new 300-seater main stand. It will also bring economic, social, and environmental benefits to our wider local community.

The award is the culmination of a two-stage vetting process which received high praise from the CIL board saying our plans ‘provide significant public benefit, represent good value for money and demonstrate appropriate use of our funds’.”

Paul added: “A special word of thanks goes to the following: Sevenoaks Town Council, Offset Architects, Sustainable Schools Project and the CIL board for supporting our plans. We would also like to thank the following for providing letters of support: the Kent FA, Football Foundation, Head in The Game (Mental Health) and Sevenoaks Samaritans.”

Cllr Claire Shea, Mayor of Sevenoaks said:  The new pavilion at Greatness Park has been a long-term ambition of Sevenoaks Town Council within the Sevenoaks Sports Strategy and the recently successful endorsed Neighbourhood Development Plan.  The Town Council is delighted that this partnership CIL Bid with the Football Club was successful and will take the project on to the next level working together to secure the final funding needed. The Town Council have been consulting on and reviewing potential improvements for Greatness Recreation Ground in the future, and this project will be a key element of this.

The project also seeks to be environmentally friendly through the design which will incorporate a green roof and living wall.

The CIL report added: “There is no doubt the project will have a positive impact within the local community. A public consultation last summer resulted in 98% of respondents supporting the proposals. It will cope with the population growth that is planned for the area, with a particular focus on underrepresented groups and those in need.”

The club is delighted to announce that Assistant Manager, Mark Dacey, has stepped up to the position of First Team Manager and will be assisted by Junior James and Adam Flemming along with the rest of the existing backroom staff – Danny Rose, Julian Leigh, Kevin Rawlinson and Carly Payne.

Dacey speaking on being appointed: “I’m honoured to be passed the baton with massive shoes for me to fill. It’s a huge confidence boost that the chairman is happy for me to take over from Harry. I will look to add my own stamp on to what Harry has already created, we want to continue to be a free flowing attacking side who compete for the play offs. I’ve got a great group of players and staff, we have enough in our changing room to help achieve our goals”

On Harry Hudson: “I’m extremely grateful to have worked with him, he’s become a life long friend and I’m proud that he’s finally taking a opportunity to explore different avenues of the game. He’s created a stable culture and philosophy at Sevenoaks, a massive credit to what he’s achieved in breaking club records in such a small period”

There’s always a beer waiting for Harry, as well as Dan Hogan who also departs for a great opportunity to spread his wings. Another great coach and person that we will all miss around the place.”

The club now looks forward to a new chapter for the Men’s First Team under the management of Mark. – Up the Oaks!

Sevenoaks Town First Team Manager Harry Hudson has stepped away from his role to

explore opportunities in professional football and has been working behind the scenes with the Board for several weeks to facilitate a seamless transition and to appoint our new manager.

Hudson said: “It has been a huge honour to manage this fantastic community football club. Earning 26 out of a possible 30 points when I first took over to secure Step 4 status was an unbelievable achievement and we created memories during that run that will stay with me forever.”

“Last season we made history in reaching the furthest the Club has been in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy whilst also achieving the highest Step 4 league position. The win away to Bath City was phenomenal and to earn the right to go toe to toe with Ebbsfleet in the next round was one of my most enjoyable matches I have ever managed.”

“We currently sit in 3rd place in the league without maximising the potential that the current squad has, and I know that the Club could not be in any better hands to now go to the next level.”

“I would like to thank the Board, especially Paul Lansdale, for their unwavering support throughout my tenure – I truly believe I will never work under better people in football”

“Special mention to our fans with whom I have shared some fantastic memories and who contribute so much to the Club”

“To the players who have played under me in the Oaks shirt – thank you”

“Finally, to my staff who I have been lucky enough to work alongside, and who do not always get the credit they deserve, a massive thank you.”

The Club would like to thank Harry for all his hard work and overall contribution to the whole club. We wish Harry every success as he continues his ambitions to coach at the highest level. Thanks for the amazing memories, we will look forward to watching your progress.

The club will announce the new manager later on today. – Up the Oaks!

Sevenoaks Town FC can today confirm the appointment of Harry Hudson as the club’s new First Team manager.

Hudson joins the club from Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division side Glebe FC having previously had spells at Whyteleafe FC and Croydon FC. He will take charge of the First Team for the first time on Saturday 26th February in the away league fixture against Corinthian FC.

The appointment of Hudson comes after a robust recruitment process with 57 applicants for the role.

The new Oaks manager will be supported by a vastly experienced and talented backroom team made up of Mark Dacey as Assistant Manager, Danny Rose as Coach, Julian Leigh as Goalkeeper Coach, Terry Groom as Coach and Kevin Rawlinson as Head of Analysis.

Hudson’s first priority is to ensure Oaks maintain their Step Four status, following a run of five successive defeats, which leaves them third from bottom with ten games left.

Hudson said: “It is a huge honour for me to be appointed as First Team manager of this ambitious club. I can’t wait to get started! After speaking to the Directors and Trustees, I very much felt their enthusiasm to grow the club, be innovative on all fronts and achieve something special.”

“The club is widely respected in so many regards; for its first-class junior and youth teams, community initiatives and of course its amazing 3G pitch with further exciting plans to build a new clubhouse and take Greatness Park to the next level. These are exciting times for everyone involved with the club.”

“My first message to the players will be that we have to do this together. We find ourselves in a difficult position but we’ll try to do our job and fight for every point over the remaining ten games of the season.”

Chairman Paul Lansdale said: “Harry is one of the most highly-rated young managers within non-league football – his hunger to succeed and ambitions to progress, match those of us as a club. He has a reputation for playing a great style of football and his passion for coaching and nurturing talent is so clear to see.”

Sevenoaks Town FC have designated Saturday’s game against Burgess Hill FC to support

Football vs Homophobia.

“Football v Homophobia” is an international initiative that challenges discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity at all levels of football. It wants football to take a clear stand against homophobia and transphobia so that everyone can enjoy the beautiful game and so that football leads the way in removing discrimination and prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Football v Homophobia International Month of Action takes place every year in February to tackle homophobia and prejudice against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) people in football. Each year, they encourage clubs, players, coaches, referees, fans and other stakeholders to participate in the campaign in any way they can.

It’s been a fantastic start to the new season at Greatness Park. Not only have we returned to football with a renewed energy and excitement after an unquestionably tough and challenging period for everyone. We have also has planning permission granted to enable us to build a new club house, covered stands, changing room facilities and associated landscaping works.

Quite rightly, football has paled into insignificance as the impact of the pandemic has been felt by everyone. Over the past 18 months, as a football club we have looked to serve our players, coaches, volunteers and local community in ways we never thought we would ever need to.

From our #SupportSevenoaks campaign to help footfall on the high-street, to hours of virtual coaching sessions delivered; phone calls and virtual meetings to stay connected with those feeling isolated to substantial investment made to ensure Greatness Park is safe place to visit; the football club has stepped up when needed and now we begin to turn our attention fully to the game itself.

As part of that, we have relied heavily on support from partners and sponsors, without whom we wouldn’t be able to operate in the manner we do for the local community.

It’s on the high of such a positive few weeks for the football club, we wish to say thank you to those businesses, companies and organisations who are continuing to support us this season.

Sevenoaks Town FC is delighted to announce the club has been granted planning permission for a new club house, covered stands, changing room facilities and associated landscaping works at Greatness Park.

As a FA England Accredited club in the heart of the local community, Sevenoaks Town offers football provision to over 60 teams including 54 youth teams including three girls’ teams, seven adult teams including a women’s team and four disability teams. Alongside this, the club runs a Wildcats Centre and popular community scheme for children aged 4- to 8-year-olds who wish to try football for the first time.

The plans for the future will enable The Oaks to enhance the playing experience for those currently enjoying the game at Greatness Park but importantly it means the club can explore new opportunities to offer even more to those across the community with a first-class facility that provides a base for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

Speaking about the news, Club Chairman Paul Lansdale said:

“After lots of hard work and endeavour, I am thrilled for everyone connected to the football club to reveal this brilliant news. Greatness Park welcomes hundreds of participants and visitors each week and our new clubhouse will be a catalyst for us to further progress as a club and build upon what we offer to our players, coaches, parents, volunteers and local community.”

“We wouldn’t have been able to get this far without the help and support of many people and now we can look ahead to making our plans a reality which is incredibly exciting.”

Lansdale added: “We are looking forward to working very closely with our landlords and our key stakeholders and partners. The future looks incredibly bright especially after two very tough seasons and we are all excited to push forwards and make Greatness Park even greater.”

Councillor Peter Fleming expressed his delighted at the news.

“Sevenoaks Town FC is truly one of the towns sporting giants, however it is the sheer scale of the club, its unstinting commitment to the community and provision of access to football for all that sometimes goes under the radar, these amazing facilities will allow this outstanding work to continue for many generations to come.”

Laura Trott, MP for Sevenoaks and Swanley was delighted with the news, adding:

This is absolutely fantastic news, and I applaud the whole team at Sevenoaks FC for all their hard work, and the support shown by Sevenoaks Town Council. The last 18 months have been so difficult for sports clubs, but the dedication from Paul and his team has been remarkable throughout. I was struck during my visit that they have never lost sight of what matters most – the future of the club and its community.”

Sevenoaks Oaks Sports Council Chair Edward Oatley believes the news marks a positive new chapter for sport in the area.

“This is such brilliant news and will help put Sevenoaks even more on the British Map on the contribution that the town makes to the development of youth sport from 5 to 18. We are without doubt role models for the whole of GB in the way that qualified volunteer coaches in all sports dedicate themselves to improve the wellbeing and development of the self-confidence of the young and help them understand that teamwork is the essence of success in all walks of life.”

Lee Suter, Kent FA Senior Football Development Officer echoed the sentiments of those involved with the planning process so far, saying:

“This is fantastic news for everyone involved with Sevenoaks Football Club who positively support so many using the power of football. Paul and his army of volunteer work tirelessly to improve the lives of others and that of the Sevenoaks area, and this milestone will allow them to develop a facility at the heart of one of Kent’s largest and well thought of football clubs”.

Sevenoaks Town FC are currently in the exciting process of putting together a 3-year plan for the women and girls’ section of the club, in which they are aiming to help the team move from tier 7 (b) to tier 4 within the next 3 years. This is an ambitious jump to a high standard of football which STFC are confident they can achieve.

In order to help Sevenoaks Town accomplish this, the club has been working with two consultants who both have a lot of first-hand experience in women’s football: Natalie Curtis, a Football Development Officer for Women & Girls Football at the Kent FA who has also played for a pro club and managed and coached at the same level, and Charlotte Richardson, an FA Club Consultant who has been involved in the Women’s Sport & Leadership Academy.

Both Natalie and Charlotte have experience of working with clubs and taking their Women’s and Girls’ teams up a few tiers, which is what Sevenoaks Town aspires to achieve. Natalie and Charlotte have begun to map out this three-year plan to help STFC achieve our goals.

Furthermore, Sevenoaks Town have also appointed Paul McDonagh who will be a great addition to the Women’s and Girls section at Sevenoaks Town. Paul is a UEFA A Coach, and has also been Technical Director for Women’s and Girls football at Charlton Athletic for 2 years.

Paul will take on and oversee STFC’s Women and Girls’ section, and he will also manage the Women’s First Team for the upcoming 21/22 season supported by Maddie Smith and Dan Thomas who bring a wealth of experience and have been instrumental in our progress so far.

We at Sevenoaks Town FC are confident that with the addition of Natalie, Charlotte and Paul to STFC’s Women and Girls’ section, as well as the foundation we have built since our first girls’ team in 2012, we will be able to really push on and increase the profile and exposure of women’s football at the cub. The ultimate aim is to have our women’s and men’s teams run in the same way and be on the same level, and we hope to achieve this starting with the 3-year plan which is being put in place.
