Spring Cleaning Tips for a Sparkling Clean Home

Spring cleaning is exactly what it sounds like; thoroughly cleaning your living space in the spring season. Often, people will use spring cleaning as a chance to get to all the household tasks they’ve been putting off, like washing their curtains or deep cleaning the oven.

The reason why we spring clean is somewhat a mystery, but it’s theorised that it was originally a way to get rid of the mess of winter in times where we would heat our homes with fires that created a lot of soot and dirt.

When should spring cleaning start?

There are no rules on when you should start spring cleaning, and with a busy schedule, you should simply try to fit it in whenever you get a chance. Generally, people will try and get their spring clean done sometime after the 1st of March, but others use the term loosely throughout the year to describe any day that they spend deep cleaning.

Our spring cleaning tips

At Poundstretcher, we think there is nothing more cleansing than a good spring clean to dust away the cobwebs of the long winter months. It allows you to start your spring and summer on a clean, uncluttered slate. We know that cleaning your whole home is an overwhelming thought, so we have put together a spring-cleaning list which should help you figure out where to start and what to focus on.

We make sure to stock a massive range of cleaning products all year round that are proven customer favourites. Check out all of our cost-effective Cleaning Supplies.

1.    Get the worst jobs done first

We’re sure that like us, you have jobs that you put off for as long as you possibly can – but getting them out of the way before you start anything else will start you off on the best foot. If you have a boring, physically draining task like oven cleaning looming over you all day, you’re setting yourself up for a miserable day. Get it done (or delegate it to someone else!) first thing so you can focus on the smaller tasks without added stress.

2. Clean carpets and floors

Carpet cleaning is something we rarely have time to get round to, but using your spring cleaning day as a reminder to get this task done will make sure that you keep your carpets fresh and looking like new. If you have carpet all throughout your home, you might consider hiring a carpet cleaning machine for a day or two so you don’t have to scrub the floors by hand.

When you’re done, why not spritz your carpets with some Fab Fresh?

3.    Windows – inside and out

Window cleaning is a task that many of us neglect, especially when it’s cold and miserable outside. But regardless, it’s still a task that needs to be done! Remember to remove any dust and fine dirt from your windowpanes with a soft cloth before putting using any cleaning products or water.

4.    Deep clean your appliances

Let your spring cleaning day be the day that you finally deep clean your appliances. Your washing machine, oven, fridge freezer, dish washer, and even your microwave need to be cleaned thoroughly to keep them running to the best of their abilities. Maintaining your appliances can stop them from breaking down, saving you money in the long run.

5.    Replace anything that needs replacing

There are lots of items in your house that need replacing once a year (or more) which you probably forget about. Use this opportunity to replace:

Basic Toiler Brush

Basic Open Toilet Brush

Mop Head Refill

Mop Heads

  • Extractor fan filters (though this should be done more frequently!)

And anything else you can think of that has to be refreshed and replaced. When things need replacing more frequently, you might find it handy to mark it in your phone calendar.

6. Finally, de-clutter and re-organise

Once the cleaning is done, it’s time to de-clutter and re-organise! Don’t let the thought of de-cluttering overwhelm you and try to do one room at a time. We’d suggest replacing old and broken organisers with new ones, and trying to start with the areas of your house that get the messiest.

Here are some products that could help you to get organised after your annual spring clean.
