The Thanet District Council is proposing to spend £1.25 million to complete the first phase of improvements to the district’s public restrooms.  , This investment marks the beginning of an anticipated larger and longer-term program of public toilet improvements that will be funded in the future.
The Overview and Scrutiny Panel will review a report outlining suggestions for improvement and repair to ten public facilities on Wednesday, December 6. On Thursday, December 14, the Cabinet will then consider it for approval.
According to the report, there is a chance that this budget value could rise to £1.5 million if an additional$ 250,000 is approved through outside funding.  ,
For the convenience of locals and visitors to important areas of the district, the council offers public restrooms. In addition,  ,
An independent surveyor, Geoff Oliver &, Associates Ltd., has surveyed each facility to determine the state of the district’s 27 council-managed public restrooms in order to inform the schedule of improvements.  ,
The work is to be completed in stages according to a priority need. The following toilets are suggested for initial repair:
- Westgate on the Sea, St. Mildreds Bay
- West Bay and Westgate on the Sea
- Broadstairs, Joss Bay
- Harbour Broadstairs
- Margate, The Center
- Ramsgate Pieryard
- Broadstairs, Viking Bay ( chalet block )
The frequency of use, proximity to a landmark or attraction, and the need to enhance disabled access and baby changing facilities were all taken into consideration when ranking these priority repairs.
The toilets wo n’t be completely renovated; instead, the repair work will concentrate on fixing any existing flaws.
If approved, the repairs should be finished before the summer of 2024.
A new toilet block at Stone Bay in Broadstairs, which will include accessible facilities, has been suggested in addition to the repair work.  ,
Additionally, it is suggested to reopen the underground restrooms at Margate Main Sands and build a new, user-friendly restroom at promenade level. Under the plans, new accessible restrooms will also be offered at Botany Bay.
