Eligible households are encouraged by the Thanet District Council to submit applications for support grants, which could significantly lower their energy costs.
For Thanet homes that are not connected to the gas network, the Home Upgrade Grant ( HUG) pays for energy-efficient upgrades. Free insulation, low carbon heating, and clean heating systems are just a few of the home improvements that eligible households can request. This will aid in reducing fuel poverty and advancing the government’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
Householders may be qualified if they have:
- Home is not heated by mains gas ( for instance, if it is heated solely by oil, coal, LPG, or electricity ).
- combined income is under £31,000 ( or an equivalent income where the cost of living is less than £20,000 after rent or mortgage costs ), receives means-tested benefits like Universal Credit, or resides in a government-designated target area.
- According to a home Energy Performance Certificate ( EPC ), homes are difficult to heat. The Energy Advice team at the Thanet District Council can assist households without an EPC in determining their eligibility. The grant is also available to landlords who own four or fewer properties. At least one-third of the upgrade costs must be covered by them.  ,
The program is run by EoN, and neighborhood installers will assist customers with the application procedure. The installer will decide which upgrades are best for qualified homes and set up any necessary installations and surveys. If necessary, EPC assessments can be included in the application process.  ,
The Home Upgrade Grant is a crucial step toward assisting residents in staying warm, lowering their fuel costs, and improving Thanet’s most energy-efficient homes, according to Cllr Helen Whitehead, Cabinet Member for Housing. In addition to assisting our lower-income residents in saving money and reducing fuel poverty, we also want to reduce Thanet’s and homes ‘ carbon emissions.  ,
” Fue fuel costs are at an all-time high, and this program is a hugely important opportunity for local residents to upgrade their homes, cut their energy costs, or lower their carbon emissions.” It will also support the council’s 2030 Net Zero commitment and its commitment to combating the climate crisis.
