The announcement that Ethos Consultants, highway and transportation experts, have been hired to create a strategic review of parking throughout the district, which thrills Thanet District Council.
A new Parking Strategy will be created in response to the review to outline the future of parking requirements for the entire district, balancing residents ‘ needs with rising visitor numbers.
Ethos Consultants will start by analyzing parking data, and then there will be an engagement exercise to get public input. Beginning in January 2024, this is anticipated.
During the development stage of the strategy, there will be 10 engagement events. There will be a mix of in-person and virtual meetings, with some sessions being open to the public. Additionally, targeted stakeholder meetings involving neighborhood businesses and council members will be held.
Early in the new year, information about the engagement events will be made public.
The draft strategy will be presented to Cabinet for approval once it has been created.  ,
We’re thrilled that Ethos Consultants have chosen to work with the council on this activity, said Cllr Heather Keen, a cabinet member in charge of parking.  ,
” Our current parking infrastructure, including car parks and on-street parking, needs improvement.” Working with Ethos will give us the specialized assistance we need to move this along and decide with confidence where to invest next.  ,
When we start the consultation, I would like to invite the locals to take part in our open engagement sessions. To achieve a collaborative and joined up approach, it is crucial to understand the needs of our customers.
The council is eager to investigate the additional options for parking payment and car park management that will become available in the future as a result of technological advancements.  ,
In addition, the council has vowed to combat climate change and has issued a climate emergency in 2019. The council is investigating which greener transportation options could be promoted in the district because car use is a significant contributor to climate change and air quality.
In order to strike a balance between the various needs of its numerous stakeholders, the council is also eager to comprehend how car parks interact with its town centers and beaches.
