Sal, who has always been a keen sportsman, began his journey into teaching in 2020. After spending time at the EKC Broadstairs College Sports Coach, he was inspired to progress to the next level and share his knowledge and experience with students in the classroom.

Can you tell us about yourself?

I had always been keen on sports, so I started volunteering at Margate Football Club, where I was fortunate enough to gain my coaching badges from level 1 through to level 3. I enjoyed working with the youth team so applied and was successful in getting the Sports Coach role at EKC Broadstairs College. That’s when I realised I was passionate about sharing my knowledge, skills and enthusiasm for sport with young people.

How did you get into teaching?

With the support from the College I was able to progress into teaching. Whilst in my Sports Coach role, the College supported me to complete the Education and Training course. I gained my qualification in 2021 and was lucky a Sports Lecturer vacancy was available. Since then I’ve been teaching full-time and love it.

It’s been a really good journey, experiencing different areas of the industry and being able to share my knowledge and experience with the students.

Can you tell us about your time working within the industry?

I have accumulated over 15 years of coaching experience, which has led to me being appointed as the U23’s manager at Margate FC back in 2022 which is a great honour. I have also co-founding Limitless Sports Coaching, with my colleague, Lynden Dixon.

Teaching and coaching are my two passions, allowing me to continually enhance my knowledge and experience across all levels of sports.

What is your favourite thing about teaching?

My greatest satisfaction comes from not only developing talented athletes but also nurturing good individuals on and off the field. Being able to share my passion with young athletes and encourage them to pursue a career within the sports industry is really rewarding.
